The guy's blatantly racist. Or, this is the big, splashy thing designed to take attention from the boring but important thing. Probably economic.

Plus, if Trump was a good politician —

well, you can't have the illusion of something being done for your buddy Elon, unless it's way past a threshold of being good for its own terms.

“But Mr. Trump alleged in his order that White South Africans are now the targets of oppression by the country's government, citing a law that U.S. conservatives like Trump adviser and billionaire Elon Musk have said allow racially motivated seizures of land owned by White South Africans. Musk was born in South Africa.

“South Africa's government has strongly denied any land confiscations or racially motivated discrimination, saying the law being scrutinized targets land not being used or not serving the public interest.”

Okay,

Even if Elon Musk is right on the facts, is this really the greatest refugee need? Compared to Ukraine, Gaza, and perhaps other wars we don't hear about as much.

Is this North, South, or Central America where we most probably have greater moral duty and most definitely self-interest?

Did these Africaneers [mainly Dutch] help us and we want to help in return? To keep our good rep in the world community and for a bunch of other reasons.

Well, South Africa was an ally during the Cold War. But that was like 30 years ago. A lot of water under the bridge.

You can say such and such actions or views are racists, but negative comments should not be attached to the person or group. As hard as that is sometimes, it's just to keep the environment non-polarizing and civil.

Totally agree with your assessment. To reverse an executive order to get that done, and to not do that for all the other groups including those who in worst situations, shows where (and with who) Trump's priorities lie.

Based on this, we can say that Trump is not against allowing more immigrants in when it's a group that he wants.
