Doge.gov just released the first batch of money saved from eliminating waste, fraud, and making cuts.

Let's balance the budget! DOGE's total estimated savings are $55 billion, which is a combination of fraud detection/deletion, contract/lease cancellations, contract/lease renegotiations, asset sales, grant cancellations, workforce reductions, programmatic changes, and regulatory savings.

Now it would be good if Elon could also post what he's going to be doing with all of that money saved. I also think we should have a way to track quality of services. Anyone can cut anything, but the hard thing here would be preserving or even improving the quality of services while running given all of these cuts. For instance, if Trump shuts down the Department of Education, I would hope that he has a plan in place to replace it with something else and that it wouldn't take away from the quality of education in the US.

There's actually some reporting on this what Trump might do with any money saved from cutting staff and budgets...

Will he pass on all of these savings to the American people?! đź‘€
President Donald Trump floated the idea Wednesday of returning some of the savings recouped by Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency to U.S. citizens, with an equal amount going to pay down the federal debt.

"There's even under consideration a new concept where we give 20% of the DOGE savings to American citizens, and 20% goes to paying down debt, because the numbers are incredible," Trump said.

Not sure how much that would help the economy but it would be a popular decision in my view.

Thinking on this issue more, one of the main reasons I'm sympathetic to Trump's efforts to cut down on government spending, esp. on foreign aid stuff, is because I see so many problems in the US.

Every homeless person on the street, every crime ridden neighborhood, every person with medical problems that can't afford healthcare (esp. mental health), i ask myself why can't the government throw money towards all of that stuff and more. Is it because we don't have enough money? If that is the case, the naturally, I think people will start asking why give millions of dollars in condoms to some other country when that can be spent here. Of course, we should also watch out that Trump doesn't cut the government programs that would help the poor people in this country, like cutting some of the entitlement programs (food stamps, Medicaid, etc).
