Her story is definitely one of the ones where a rising music star was taken too early. I heard little of Selena until the late 90s, after she had already died. She was murdered in 1995.

For those not familiar with her.. Selena Quintanilla Pérez was probably one of few, maybe even the first, Hispanic (Tejano) pop music artists that became big in the U.S. Many believe she was getting ready to take off to become even bigger. She was born in Texas, raised by a humble Mexican-American family. As she was working her way up the music industry, she hired a secretary named Yolanda.
....
Long story short, Yolanda was managing a fan club for Selena and started pocketing some of the money that fans were paying. Selena's father found out about it, as well as Selena herself. Tragically, Selena went to a hotel to talk to Yolanda about the theft and that ended up being the last of Selena. Yolanda fatally shot Selena.

I recommend reading up on her story, her life. She was definitely taken too soon.

RIP Selena
