In previous threads I've covered why Christians would vote for Trump given his character issues. I get why seeing that it's a practical decision given that there's no perfect candidate.

But then some Christians even claim that God wanted Trump to be president. I acknowledge that Trump becoming president was highly improbable given that he was facing criminal charges stemming from several different cases, and not to mention that he was almost assassinated. But I question why would God want any imperfect man as opposed to just staying out of it?

Would an all-good God support a non-believer?

For starters, we don’t know if Trump is a believer or not. He claims to be and since we cannot know for certain, we cannot simply dismiss his claim. Has Trump lived a perfect life? Nope, but then again none of us have either. Would I vote for Trump to be my pastor? Nope, but then again he didn’t campaign for a pastor’s position.

Your question is, imo, skewed. Stating God supports Trump as president would assume God supported Hitler as ruler of Germany. Or that He supported Stalin as leader of USSR. I don’t believe God supports any politician or political party, especially any party that promotes what God has called sinful. However, I do believe God places people in positions as He sees fit. Notice Romans 13:1 Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God

I believe God placed Trump in office just as He placed Biden in office. God is so good that He gives us what we want even when He knows it will not have a great outcome. The children of Israel wanted a king. God told them it wouldn’t be what they expected. But they demanded a king anyway, so God gave them Saul. This time God heard my plea and He gave me Trump.

@Scooter

Excellent post! My question came from what some Christians claim.

Your points are spot on. I also don't believe that God chooses our presidents based who is righteous or a Christian, but rather it's more like allowing things to happen or not happen which will lead to a result. For instance, if that bullet would've hit the president, then that obviously would've meant no Trump's presidency. I couldn't imagine the presidency being a result of God making some choice the same way that we do.
