Featured Is Salvation based on Works or Faith or both?

I think we all agree that "works" are involved with salvation. The disagreement is in how or what role does it play in salvation. Is it the basis or cause for Salvation or just a result or effect of Salvation?

I think there's stronger support for the latter - Scooter's position. Scooter's explanation factors in both works and faith, whereas the salvation by works position doesn't really explain the role of faith...it almost ignores that faith is involved.

I'm always open to seeing it differently but so far there's not a good enough case for the salvation by works view.

This is what I have been saying. Instead of pulling verses out of context to create a doctrine, the whole Bible must be examined for cohesiveness of doctrines. I am glad you finally realize this.

The only way to look at salvation is by faith alone and not by works. That is the only way taught by scripture. Good works are the fruit of our salvation not the root of our salvation. And I remain a good hearted believer tying to help others along.

That's an important way to look at it

Too many Christians try to win over every type of non-believer the same way. I think some times you have to take a step back and consider how the other side thinks of things. If I'm dealing with a skeptic, then throwing Bible passages at them will likely not help as it would with fellow Christians.
