Awareness about transgender issue is increasing. I think that would present some challenges to Christians. For instance, how would you handle a biological male wanting to be addressed with feminine pronouns?

I've heard some Christians say that it's okay to address that person as they want. But does doing so lead to compromising Christian moral values?

For Discussion:
1. What is the Christian view on transgenderism? Is it moral?
2. Is it wrong to address someone as a gender that they aren't born as? How should a Christian handle this situation...

What would Jesus do?!

I would treat the person with the same respect I would treat any mentally ill person. When my mother-in-law's Alsheimer flares up and she starts to hallucinate, I don't argue with her and tell her there are no little children in front of the TV. I tell her that I can't see them. If a trans person wants me to call them by their preferred name, I will because I don't want to drive them away. They definitely need the help that Jesus can give.

@Scooter

Got it. SO i take it then that you don't buy the view that calling them by their preferred pronoun is the same as affirming their lifestyle. I was thinking some Christians would see it as affirmation and be against it on moral grounds. I think the same issue would come out for gay married couples. Think in a medical setting where a same-sex married couple comes in, and Steve keeps referencing his husband. Would calling Steve's partner a husband mean that you are affirming their marriage?:unsure:

I don't think so if you can separate legal from moral. Referring to Steve's husband could just be you saying what they are based on a American legal definition. But in a Christian context, they wouldn't be that. It's hard to separate the two but I think it's doable and practical.
