The Universe is very big. It's hard to think that we're the only type of intelligent life that exist.

What say you? Is there life out there? If not on another planet, then maybe in a parallel Universe?

Saw an interesting movie about that a few years ago.. imagine finding some parallel Earth out there.

Now that i think about it, I don't think I should limit the existence of life or sentient existence to just planets. It's possible that they would exist in another dimension (the ancients might say "realms"), in other Universes, etc. This then opens the door to spirits, God, angels, and whatever else that exists beyond Earth.

So there might be another me elsewhere in the Universe ? ??

Well, I’m not sure I’m the same “me” I was 20 years ago. Maybe not even 5 years ago.

Okay, I took the following from philosopher Derek Parfit —

In the long human future, there’s going to be somebody pretty close to me in personality and so forth, who’s going to have pretty close to my peak experiences. And . . .

good for them!

Parfit was asking, What’s more important, that the happiness exists in the world or that it specifically be mine? And one of his fellow professors told him that he had essentially rediscovered (re-invented? ) Buddhism.

There’s also this aspect —

that when a person is young, their life is more like a river. As they’re living their older years, it’s more like the river following into the ocean. You start caring more about people having worthwhile lives even after you are gone.

PS this part is someone else besides Parfit

Anyway, you got me thinking. And thanks for a thoroughly thought-provoking clip. :)

I was thinking we need to expand how we think about life elsewhere. Too often, we think we are alone just because other planets may not have life like ours. Me think we gotta think bigger! Other Universes, other dimensions, other realms, etc.

Can you imagine how you'd feel if you discovered that life existed elsewhere? That could have huge implications for purpose, ethics, and many other areas.

Personally, I believe there is life elsewhere. This life or beings may exist on other planets or other dimensions. I believe it's entirely possible for them to make contact for us. My hunch comes from several areas, like the pyramids for instance. Researchers tend to be baffled when it comes to explaining how ancient primitive people were able to lift such heavy material, and how did these structures come to look similar across various regions of the world where people on different continents had little to no contact with each other (e.g. the Mayans and the Egyptians).

Was just reading that the origins of life on Earth is still a mystery. The theory of evolution only tells us that life evolves once it begins, but does not cover how life started in the first place.

Other Universes might be a bridge too far for me!

even though I know the idea and possibility is kind of mainstream
It's more theory than anything else right now. No one has ever seen another Universe. Although, it would be cool if we stumbled upon it by surprise just like in the movie I linked to earlier. Btw, that movie was more drama than sci-fi.

Other planets and dimensions might be an easier pill to swallow. And of course, we can't discount that we could be the ones that began populating other planets.

The professor saying that this is an Alien probe has made similar claims... not to say he won't ever be right..
